Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack

300 miles of EPA range at 42.9 kWh per 100 miles — the fourth-highest energy use of the 36 EPA-rated cars here, behind only the Hummer, Silverado and F-150 Lightning, which tells you most of what you need to know about moving a full-size electric pickup through the air. Bought for what it does, not what it costs to run.

The R1T needs 108.5 kWh to travel 329 EPA miles. The Tesla Model Y needs 75 kWh to travel 327. That single comparison is the most useful thing on this page: an electric pickup pays an enormous energy penalty for its frontal area and mass, and no amount of drivetrain engineering makes that go away.

What that means in practice

A pack that size costs more to buy and considerably more to replace once out of warranty. It also takes longer to fill from any given charger, and the range figure falls hard when towing — the case where a pickup is most likely to be used and least likely to reach its rating. Plan long trips around real observed consumption, not the EPA number.

What we have not filled in

Several rows on this page are blank: WLTP range, European pricing, the charging curve and the 10 to 80 percent time. The R1T is not sold in Europe, so the European figures do not exist rather than being missing. The charging figures are absent because the EPA had not published 2026 model-year efficiency data at the time of writing and we would rather show nothing than an estimate dressed up as a measurement. They will be filled in when a citable source exists.

Frequently asked questions

How far does the Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack really go on a charge?

The Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack covers 300 miles on the EPA cycle.

How long will the Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack’s battery last?

The battery is warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles, with replacement if capacity falls below 70 per cent. Our projection puts it at roughly 78.4 per cent of original capacity after eight years. That is an estimate, not a measurement: nobody publishes per-model degradation data, so it applies the published rate for this vehicle class and is labelled as an estimate everywhere it appears. The reasoning is set out in full on the methodology page, and we compare warranty terms across the database on best EV battery warranties.

Projected battery capacity

Projected straight-line from 2.7% a year — the published rate for this vehicle class, not a measurement of this car. Nobody releases per-model degradation data: the one fleet dataset large enough to matter anonymises the models. Capacity loss is driven as much by calendar age as by mileage, which is why it is reported per year rather than per kilometre. Real packs vary with climate, how long the car sits at a high state of charge, and how much of its charging is done at high-power DC.
