Battery Technologies

One page per cell chemistry, each answering the same four questions: how much energy the cells hold for their weight, the temperature at which thermal runaway begins, how many full cycles the pack is expected to take, and what it costs per kilowatt-hour to build. Every figure names its source and the date it was read.

The chemistry decides more of what owning the car is like than the badge does. It sets how much range the pack gives for its size, how quickly it loses capacity, how it behaves in the cold, and whether charging it to 100 per cent is something to do daily or to avoid — a question worked through in should you charge an EV to 100 per cent. Which cars in this database use which cells is indexed at LFP and NMC, and the LFP cars are ranked in electric cars with LFP batteries.
