AWD

Seven all-wheel-drive electric cars, compared on what each one actually costs to run. Drivetrain is the specification most often assumed to decide efficiency, and the spread below shows how much of the difference it really explains. Observed real-world range runs from 375 km in the Toyota bZ4X AWD 73.1 kWh to 555 km in the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD. On the EPA cycle the six of them with a US rating rate 272 to 346 miles; that figure and the WLTP one are not comparable, which is what EPA against WLTP is about. Real-world efficiency, which is what decides the electricity bill, spans 142 to 221 Wh per km (the full efficiency ranking). Measured 10 to 80 per cent charging takes 22 to 48 minutes (every car ranked on that window). Every figure below names its source and the date it was read; the assumptions behind the cost arithmetic are on the methodology page.

At a glance

This archive lists 13 vehicles with published specification data. The shortest and longest sourced ranges are EPA 272 to 493 mi; WLTP 520 to 520 km, with each test cycle kept separate. The fastest sourced 10–80% DC charging time is 22 minutes. Usable battery capacities run from 69 to 142.3 kWh, and the sourced cell chemistries are NCMA, NMC, LFP.

A shared drivetrain label describes which wheels are driven; it does not imply a shared battery or range. Check the linked model page for the underlying specifications and sources.
