Ten electric saloons are compared here on the measurements that decide running cost. They are the BMW i4 eDrive40, BYD Seal AWD Excellence, Hyundai Ioniq 6 Long Range RWD, Lucid Air Pure RWD, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ with EQ Technology, Polestar 2 Single Motor, Porsche Taycan (rear-wheel drive), Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD, Tesla Model 3 RWD and Volkswagen ID.7 Pro. Observed real-world range runs from 445 km in the BYD Seal AWD Excellence to 555 km in the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD. On the EPA cycle the seven of them with a US rating rate 274 to 420 miles; that figure and the WLTP one are not comparable, which is what EPA against WLTP is about. Real-world efficiency, which is what decides the electricity bill, spans 133 to 185 Wh per km (the full efficiency ranking). Measured 10 to 80 per cent charging takes 17 to 36 minutes (every car ranked on that window). Every figure below names its source and the date it was read; the assumptions behind the cost arithmetic are on the methodology page.
At a glance
This archive lists 10 vehicles with published specification data. The shortest and longest sourced ranges are EPA 274 to 420 mi; WLTP 520 to 621 km, with each test cycle kept separate. The fastest sourced 10–80% DC charging time is 17 minutes. Usable battery capacities run from 60 to 85 kWh, and the sourced cell chemistries are NMC, LFP, NMC 811.
