RWD
Twelve rear-wheel-drive electric cars, compared on what each one actually costs to run. Drivetrain is the specification most often assumed to decide efficiency, and the spread below shows how much of the difference it really explains. Observed real-world range runs from 365 km in the Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Range to 525 km in the BMW i4 eDrive40. On the EPA cycle the nine of them with a US rating rate 260 to 342 miles; that figure and the WLTP one are not comparable, which is what EPA against WLTP is about. Real-world efficiency, which is what decides the electricity bill, spans 133 to 191 Wh per km (the full efficiency ranking). Measured 10 to 80 per cent charging takes 17 to 32 minutes (every car ranked on that window). Every figure below names its source and the date it was read; the assumptions behind the cost arithmetic are on the methodology page.
At a glance
This archive lists 21 vehicles with published specification data. The shortest and longest sourced ranges are EPA 260 to 420 mi; WLTP 534 to 621 km, with each test cycle kept separate. The fastest sourced 10–80% DC charging time is 17 minutes. Usable battery capacities run from 60 to 107 kWh, and the sourced cell chemistries are NCM, NMC, NCMA, LFP, NMC 811.
A shared drivetrain label describes which wheels are driven; it does not imply a shared battery or range. Check the linked model page for the underlying specifications and sources.
