A used electric car comes with three things a used petrol car does not: a battery warranty that is still running, a recall record that says which faults its maker has already admitted to, and a charging socket that decides which networks it can use. This page ranks the 36 US-market cars in our database on those, using the manufacturers’ own warranty documents where we hold them, and NHTSA’s recall database.
It is written for cars from the 2023 to 2026 model years. A warranty runs from the day the car was first sold, so a used buyer inherits what is left of it; whether it transfers to a second owner is set out in the booklet, and is worth reading before you buy.
Longest battery warranty
Genesis GV60 AWD, Hyundai Ioniq 5 84 kWh RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 6 Long Range RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 9 RWD, Kia EV3 Long Range FWD, Kia EV6 84 kWh RWD and Kia EV9 99.8 kWh AWD carry a 10-year battery warranty in the US; almost everything else is 8 years. On miles, Rivian R1S Dual Motor, Max pack covers 150,000 miles, Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack covers 150,000 miles, Tesla Cybertruck Long Range covers 150,000 miles, Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD covers 120,000 miles and Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD covers 120,000 miles. The capacity floor matters as much as the term: it is the state of health below which the pack is repaired or replaced. Of the 26 cars with a stated floor, 22 are at 70 per cent; Chevrolet Blazer EV FWD, Chevrolet Equinox EV FWD, Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range and GMC Hummer EV Pickup 3X are at 75.
Ranked from the 29 cars in our database that have a sourced figure for this. A car with no published figure is left out rather than ranked as a zero. Figures are US units; every model page carries the metric equivalent and the source.Figures are metric; every model page carries the imperial equivalent and the source.
We do not yet hold a manufacturer warranty document for Acura ZDX RWD, Cadillac Lyriq RWD, Cadillac Optiq RWD, Honda Prologue FWD, Lexus RZ 350e FWD, Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE 87 kWh and Nissan Leaf 75 kWh, so they are left out of this table rather than filled from a secondary source.
Fewest battery and electrical recalls
Across the 35 cars the count of NHTSA battery, electrical and powertrain campaigns over the last four model years comes to 120. Cadillac Optiq RWD, Honda Prologue FWD, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ with EQ Technology and Toyota bZ4X AWD 73.1 kWh carry none; Hyundai Ioniq 5 84 kWh RWD carries the most, at 10. A recall is a fault the maker has agreed to fix for free, so a long list on a popular car is not proof of a bad one — what matters on a used car is whether the fixes were done, which a free VIN check at nhtsa.gov/recalls answers in seconds.
Ranked from the 30 US-market cars with a verified NHTSA recall record. A 0 means NHTSA returned no battery, electrical or powertrain campaign for the last four model years; a car whose model name NHTSA does not recognise is left out, not shown as 0. Longest EPA range
Range on the window sticker is the figure a battery loses a little of every year, so a used car starts below it. The longest EPA ratings here are Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range (493 miles), Lucid Air Pure RWD (420 miles) and Rivian R1S Dual Motor, Max pack (410 miles).

Built with the Tesla-style NACS socket
In the model year we list for each, Ford Mustang Mach-E Extended Range RWD, Ford Mustang Mach-E Standard Range RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 5 84 kWh RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 9 RWD, Kia EV6 84 kWh RWD, Kia EV9 99.8 kWh AWD, Nissan Leaf 75 kWh, Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack, Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD, Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD and Toyota bZ4X AWD 73.1 kWh have a NACS port and reach Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Several of these switched from CCS during the 2023 to 2026 window, so an earlier car of the same name may have a CCS socket: look at the car, not the name. CCS cars can use many Superchargers with an adapter; which ones, and how fast, depends on the car.
What these tables do not tell you
They describe the model, not the car in front of you. A battery health report on that VIN, the open recall check, and the service history decide more than any ranking. The five checks worth doing before you pay are in our used EV checks guide.

Frequently asked questions
Which used electric car has the longest battery warranty?
In our US data, Genesis GV60 AWD, Hyundai Ioniq 5 84 kWh RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 6 Long Range RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 9 RWD, Kia EV3 Long Range FWD, Kia EV6 84 kWh RWD and Kia EV9 99.8 kWh AWD carry 10 years; Rivian R1S Dual Motor, Max pack (150,000 miles), Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Large pack (150,000 miles), Tesla Cybertruck Long Range (150,000 miles), Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD (120,000 miles) and Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD (120,000 miles) have the highest mileage limits.
Does the battery warranty transfer to a second owner?
It runs from the original in-service date, and transfer terms are set in each maker's warranty booklet; read it for the model and year you are buying.
Are recalls a reason to avoid a used EV?
Not on their own. A recall is a fault the maker fixes for free; check that the work was done on that VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
